Have we become so obese as a society, we now need obese crash test dummies?
Yes, apparently that is the case. Throw in the fact that obese people are more likely to die in a car crash and these dummies are needed for studies.
Obese crash test dummies key to prevent road deaths? - CNN
I know obese people who have died in car accidents and I always wondered if they had been thinner, would they have lived?
When you're morbidly obese and have a hard time fitting into the driver's seat, that puts your body closer to the steering wheel and car impact during a car accident. Throw in the fact that shoulder seat belts are not necessarily made to restrain a 400 pound body, but instead are made for normal, healthy sized bodies, and that potentially could result in fatalities as well.
So, the question is: will I have a better chance of surviving a car accident if I'm not morbidly obese?
Meanwhile, America's obesity numbers are only expected to increase by the year 2030.
