Blackout Curtains May Help Weight Loss?

We have blackout curtains in our living room but not in our bedroom.  This makes zero design sense but it made sense at the time we were investing in curtains.

Now, there's a new study that says sleeping in a bedroom with too much light has been linked to an increased risk of obesity.

The study is here from the BBC:
Light bedrooms 'link to obesity'

Although the study does not show an absolute that if you sleep in the dark you won't be obese, it does cause attention.

My sister died at the age of 49.  She was obese.  Two years before her death, she was diagnosed with cancer.  For most of her life, her body clock was disrupted because she would sleep during the day and do her reading or intensive work at night.  Growing up, we shared a bedroom and she was up all hours of the night constantly reading books.  She'd fall asleep with the light on.  Our bedroom curtains were also sheer so the minute the sun came up in the morning, our bedroom was filled with light.  Into adulthood, my sister worked very hard earning several college degrees and her doctorate, which required an immense amount of studying, research, and writing.  As a night owl, she also did that work in the darkness of the night.  Even during her career as a college professor and high school teacher, she checked her students' homework late into the night.  She kept an odd schedule as she was up all hours of the night her entire life.  Her sleep schedule was always off kilter.  If she had regular sleep at night in an all dark room, would she have been obese?  Would she have lived longer if she had a normal body clock?

Maybe it's time for me to switch my living room curtains with my bedroom curtains.  I absolutely believe that getting a good night's sleep has a lot to do with curbing obesity and weight gain.  So, it makes sense that blackout curtains and a dark room with uninterrupted sleep would help with weight loss.

Time to make a simple switch...
