If you have to go to an urgent care for even the smallest concern, this is what it looks like. Everyone who has a cough is asked to put on a mask. No kidding. We went from no one wearing masks in my neighborhood doctor's office to nearly everyone wearing masks.
I didn't have a cough, but the people around me did. They joked they had just been traveling outside of the country. I suggested they put on masks. They said they would, but in reality, they hadn't been traveling and they were joking. Funny joke.
When my name was called, the first question I was asked, "Have you been to Africa or West Africa recently?"
"No," was my answer.
Looking at patients wearing masks was odd to say the least. Everyone is on edge.
This is flu season, so the basic information is cover your mouth. No one wants the flu.
I wasn't worried about contracting Ebola because the signs are extensive with that deadly virus.
The flu symptoms are different. Truth be told, no one in the office looked deathly ill.
Precautions are being taken just the same. And everyone, even the medical assistants and staff are concerned about their own health. Even a few of them were wearing masks.
One patient said the masks had a weird odor and she couldn't breathe through them. After a few minutes, she took off the mask.
And then she started coughing without a mask. If I get the flu, I'm sending her my medical bill. Please, if you're sick, just cover your mouth...
