If you read my earlier post from last week about Ebola Cases Could Hit 1.4 Million by Mid-January, you know the concerns about Ebola AND MRSA.
Now, both infections are here on U.S. soil. It was only a matter of time.
CDC: First diagnosed case of Ebola in the U.S. - CNN
That's right - like most MRSA patients, this Ebola patient in Texas was NOT in isolation. This is exactly the way that MRSA is spread in our community.
Who did that person come into contact with while contagious, yet not being treated?
What a health nightmare...
When you travel, be aware of who you come into contact with and I'd advise people NOT to shake hands and wash hands with alcohol based hand sanitizer or hand wash. I carry small amounts of alcohol based hand sanitizer with me for this very reason.
I know far more about MRSA than I should. Once surfaces are contaminated, MRSA can stay alive on objects.
Ebola also can stay alive on objects: Survival Outside Host - Pathogen Safety Data Sheets
MRSA can be killed by Pure Green 24 and Clorox, and clorine or bleach based products. On the same site as the above link, it mentions decontamination of floors and contaminated services with bleach. If you're not already cleaning with these products in your home, your car and your work place, start today.
I reinforce my call for all businesses to use bleach based products for regular cleaning of the workplace to protect all employees.
Ebola is here. It's in Texas. Don't kid yourself. Start protecting yourself today by cleaning with products known to kill viruses.
My prediction is that we will hear about additional Ebola cases in the U.S. in the days ahead.
