Gluten.
Twenty years ago, if you said the word "gluten" to me, I wouldn't have known what you were talking about. But today, everyone knows the evils of gluten.
C'mon. It's gone crazy.
The other day, I see this thin guy in his 20s get really excited. His friend offered him a piece of pizza and he savored every bite. Then, he ate three more pieces of pizza. I asked him why he was so happy and then he said the word "gluten."
"I've been gluten-free for so long, I've missed pizza and carbs. Now, I won't be able to stop myself." He was euphoric eating pizza.
I told him that he should find a balance so he can have gluten more often. But, no. That wasn't an option. He's deep in the gluten-free world. He said this was only a side-step and he would jump back on the gluten-free bandwagon the next day.
He looked so thin and hungry. Does he always feel hungry?
There's no reason to go gluten-free unless you're allergic and gluten is deadly to you. Otherwise, if you have a normal metabolism, weight loss is achievable without going gluten-free.
Deprivation leads to binges. Binges lead to weight gain. So, before you go gluten-free and deprive yourself of certain types of food to lose weight, think about balance and tracking your foods instead.
