Organic Coconut Sugar - yum!

On a recent shopping trip to Trader Joe's, I discovered they're now selling Organic Coconut Sugar.  It's delicious and only 15 calories for 1 tsp if you're adding it to a pitcher of plain iced tea or coffee.  I can use less of the Organic Coconut Sugar because it's sweeter.  I've even cooked with it and it works as a substitute for regular sugar.  I imagine it differs from recipe to recipe.

I try to avoid everything fake or processed now, so this offering seemed like a natural progression to have on hand in my kitchen. It's very sweet, almost like brown sugar.  Sometimes I like to add a little tiny sprinkle to the top of my Steel Cut Oatmeal.  I'm not a sugar fiend so it's not an every day thing for me.  Too much sugar can lead to an unconscious eating binge so I try not to trigger any unconscious behavior.  I like to eat consciously and completely aware of everything I take into my body.

It's interesting.  Since I've had an increased awareness, I can tell whether my body can metabolize what I'm about to eat.

Can my body metabolize one cookie in one sitting?  Yes.

Can my body metabolize ten cookies in one sitting?  No.

Over time, it becomes obvious.  I work with my body instead of against my body now.

It's a true partnership with every food choice!

  1. I had no idea this even existed! Since I have diabetes, I'm always on the lookout for anything sweet that isn't high in carbs. I need to try this if it's sweeter than sugar. I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners or stevia, because it doesn't taste real to me. We don't have a Trader Joe's so I'm going to look around for this stuff in our grocery stores.

Thanks for the idea! Love it! :)
