Can't you see the problem with this?
Buying a morbidly obese woman a big cake for her birthday is cruel.
I don't care if it's at work or in front of the family, it makes no sense.
She sees the problem, too, but she doesn't want to offend you.
So, she feels that she MUST eat the cake even though everyone knows she's been trying to lose weight. She hates herself after eating an entire piece of cake because she's been counting calories and recently lost five pounds.
Did you know that? Did you even care?
No. You bought her a sheet cake and had it decorated.
You think this is a brilliant idea and it's her birthday, so why not splurge?
You even remind her that she gets to keep all of the leftover sheet cake... that is meant to feed 50?
With 40 pieces leftover, she'll be eating cake for quite a while.
For many days, she eats the leftover cake at home.
She wants to throw it out, but doesn't want to waste your money.
She appreciates the thought, not the calories.
And by the end of the week, she's gained all five pounds back and she's depressed.
What are you going to do now? Buy her an ice cream cone to make her smile?
Rethink what you're doing to friends, co-workers or loved ones. Instead of buying a big cake, buy a cupcake and cut it into slices. Or put a candle in a tomato and sing Happy Birthday. Be creative and original. Please, the next time you think of buying a huge birthday cake for someone who is morbidly obese, think again... if you love her, buy her something else or just sing. Singing counts and it is calorie-free!
