When I think of watermelon, I don't think of drinking the juice. And watermelons can get really juicy. Instead, I think of the mess when you cut them. Sometimes I'll toss some watermelon into a smoothie, but I really don't buy watermelons every week. It's a once in a while item.
But one farmer is investing his farm into a new watermelon juice called "Tsamma."
Can watermelon squeeze into the juicing craze?
I instantly thought of the calorie count on this drink. It's 80 calories for the 12 ounce drink. It has 17 grams of sugar, but no sugar added.
Nutrition: Tsamma Natural Watermelon Juice
I'd be interested in trying it, but I haven't seen it in any stores. Apparently, it's being carried in a bunch of our Vons on the west coast.
Farmers have to make money and they have to be original sometimes. Watermelon juice is a first. And there are billions of dollars at stake in the bottled juicing business. So, there's no reason watermelon juice can't put a squeeze on that money and take some for themselves.
There have been crazier ideas... have you seen the Chia Pet? That still makes me laugh and every time I see one I want to buy one! See, a good idea is a good idea...and it can be profitable!
