Milk or No Milk?

Milk... should we drink it or not?

When I first started working for one of my bosses in the mid-1990s in the studio system, he told me to get off of all dairy.

NO MILK!

Every day he'd talk about eliminating dairy from my diet.  What diet?  I wasn't dieting back then and I didn't think about it.  Of course, I grew up across the street from a dairy farm.  My mother grew up on a farm.  We always had fresh milk.  In fact, milk was a big part of my life.  We'd make our own butter and the milk tasted better than it does today.

My boss worked on me.  He gave me his arguments against milk... and I ignored him.

He was a super-health nut, I thought, but he could actually see into his crystal ball the future of milk.

Eventually, everybody I knew in the entertainment industry joined him on the crazy train and shunned dairy.  As it turned out, it wasn't such a crazy train after all.

Maybe, just maybe, there are health benefits to giving up milk and dairy.

Then again, maybe you shouldn't give up milk.

Here's what I decided on my own.

I only looked only at the calories.

The calories of regular whole milk is far higher than almond milk.  It is a huge savings in daily calories to switch to almond milk.  That's why I drink more almond milk instead of whole milk.

The glass of milk in the picture is only 2% milk, not whole milk, because I picked up the wrong container.  Normally, I don't buy low-fat anything anymore.

I like to keep some whole milk on hand for various reasons.  I'll admit that I like a splash of milk in my coffee now and then.  Beyond that, it's primarily a life of almond milk for me.

If you're counting calories on MyFitnessPal.com, you will see the huge calorie saving so you can eat more food instead of drinking your calories in whole milk.  The choice is yours...
