Gender Discrimination Sadly Alive and Well...

This is today's world in 2014.

Gender discrimination still exists in 2014.

Like the corset to the left, women must tighten up their waist strings, accept discrimination as they're advised to let it go.

We are so desensitized to the happenings in the world that we've given up the fight.  If you don't like gender discrimination in the workplace, you're told to quit your job and move on.

TheGuardian.com has an article entitled "40% of managers avoid hiring younger women to get around maternity leave: Cost of maternity leave too high and women 'aren't as good at their jobs' when they return, survey of 500 managers says."

So, women aren't as good at their jobs... according to both male and female managers.

Yes, women discriminate against women.

It's shocking at first, but then again, not so shocking at all.

How many women feel threatened by other women?

How many men feel threatened by women?

HuffingtonPost.com offers an article entitled "10 Everyday Sexisms and What Do You Do About Them."  Number one on the list is Religious Sexism and Discrimination.  The church has a history of being patriarchal and we learn this from childhood that it's a man's world.  To this day, if someone is given a choice on whether to have a male or female officiant at a wedding or a funeral, the taught instinct is to choose a man first.  That is gender discrimination because someone is being offered someone solely on gender first.  Don't fool yourself.  It happens every day somewhere in America in 2014.

The article goes on to explore the bias in language and gender hierarchy.  It's real.

MarieClaire.com provides research in the article "Women Pay More: From dry cleaning to haircuts, women often pay more than men due to gender pricing."  It's absurd, but it's also very real.

I say let's get real, too, by admitting that gender discrimination exists and counter it.

Actor Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame mentioned the Kind Campaign on the recent Emmy telecast.  The Kind Campaign is an organization that his wife co-founded that is ..."based upon the powerful belief in KINDness, that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl 'crime.'" The bullying of women by both men and women must stop and the only way to counter that in schools, churches and the workplace is with forgiveness and a stream of equal kindness and equal respect.

Make the healthy choice today... choose kindness and respect both genders.
