When I worked in TV news, we had a situation where there was a conflict of interest between the news anchor/reporter and one of the stories he was reporting on regularly.
While he was reporting certain stories on the air about a particular company, he was actually on the payroll of that company giving "consulting" advice on how to handle the media. Wow... It's a blatant conflict of interest. The decision was quickly made and he had to go.
A similar situation just happened in Alaska and instead of going away quietly, she went out with a swear word.
Here's the video:
KTVA reporter quits on-air, reveals herself as owner of Alaska Cannabis Club
It's a fame grab. It's obvious. She even admitted that she wanted to draw attention to the issue and probably her ownership of the cannabis club.
After her TV exit, the TV station says it terminated her as a reporter.
I'm surprised the TV station didn't ask who owned the cannabis club in the first place. But if she was doing all of the coverage on the same club she owned, the TV station probably trusted the reporter.
Either way, the reporter got what she wanted: national attention. Should be interesting to see if her 15 minutes of fame is extended to 30 or decreased to 10...
